What is the traditional Catholic greeting? ›

The simple greeting, therefore, “The Lord be with you” conveys a most profound truth. When the priest uses this greeting, the priest's words remind us that we are in the presence of God. Our gathering is not something that we do on our own. God himself is calling us together.

The Sacraments are categorised into the Sacraments of Initiation (baptism, the Eucharist, and confirmation), the Sacraments of Healing (reconciliation and anointing of the sick) and the Sacraments of Vocational Consecration (matrimony and ordination).

Birth rites include such practices as naming the child, purifying the mother, making thanksgiving offerings for safe delivery of the child and acknowledgement of paternity. The blessing of mother and child is a Christian example. Rites of initiation most commonly accompany coming-of-age.

Examples of traditions include praying the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet, devotions to favorite saints, making the sign of the cross and the like.

Catholic. In the Latin Church, the traditional greeting on Easter morning and throughout the Easter Octave is: Christus surréxit! - Surréxit vere, allelúja (“Christ is risen!” - “He is risen indeed, Alleluia!”).

When used in a broader sense, the term "Catholic" is distinguished from "Roman Catholic", which specifically denotes allegiance to the Bishop of Rome, i.e. the Pope.
